A Belgian artist received more than 20.000 lawsuits, and was beaten several times, after performing a bizarre artistic performance consisting of throwing cats down the stairs.
Jean Fabre performed his performance in the building of the city municipality in Antwerp.
During the performance of his point, Fabre threw the frightened cats up and onto the stairs.
"I'm sorry that the cats got a bad reception when they fell. I want to apologize to all cat lovers. It was not my intention to hurt them or cause them pain. All the cats I used in my performance are fine"
The performance, which was published online, caused a storm of criticism and outrage.
According to the newspaper "La Libre Belgique", Fabre received more than 20.000 lawsuits because of his performance.
He was also physically attacked several times by passers-by on the street.
Many animal protection organizations have launched lawsuits against this artist. Fabre also addressed the public via television.
