The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, was a guest of Fareed Zakaria on the GPS show on CNN, where she talked about what it's like to be an LGBT prime minister, that is, what it was like to grow up with such a sexual orientation in Serbia.
Brnabić said that she was lucky because she always had the support of her family and friends. "I'm not the best person to talk about it. However, if you know who you are and if you know how to deal with it, then other people will learn to accept it," the Prime Minister of Serbia pointed out. When asked by journalists how she dealt with it when she entered politics, that is, whether this fact created difficulties for her in the political sense, Brnabić replied that it was true, from the first day she encountered comments. "Nevertheless, on the other hand, I had enormous support from the president of the country, who is also the president of the largest political party in Serbia, and without that support, I don't think I would have been able to endure everything without being prime minister." She added that there is a lot of opposition due to her sexual orientation, primarily from religious communities, the political opposition, but also from some politicians who are part of the government.
