Montenegro is a true paradise for motorcyclists of all categories. The only thing you need for endless enjoyment is that you are a nature lover... The route of this motorcycle trip leads to the Kolašina road, through forests, across pastures, past mountain lakes, back to the starting destination.
Regardless of whether you continue on the highway, you must not bypass Kolašin. After some 75 km of driving, it is time to take a break. Fresh mornings and pleasant afternoons, delicious food and friendly hosts will make you rest in the right way.
We like to talk a little with the locals, so after the "consultation" we head towards Mateševo, about 10 km away from Kolašin. The road is excellent, so with a temperature of 23°c, driving is a real pleasure. We didn't even blink when here we are in Mateševo in front of a sign that clearly directs us. One branch leads to Andrijevica and the other, ours, to Veruša.
The road further leads us through an area of incredible wealth of plant species. Greenery just hits us in the head. These areas are known to pickers of medicinal herbs, and mushrooms are particularly popular. To our great regret, there are no fruits of blueberries and strawberries yet, but we write in our reminders that we should come back. At the 22nd km from Kolašin, we find a signpost to Opasanica, one of the most beautiful villages in this region.

Veruša then and now
A few kilometers further (26km), we arrive in the center of Veruša. Cottages scattered all over the place, and cottagers here and there. Once upon a time, this area was very popular with numerous hikers, and not only those originally from these areas. Today, with a small cafe and some closed building, which resembles a tobacconist and does not promise. In the center there is also a children's home, which takes me back some 25 years, evoking memories of the days spent in this camp.
We continue on the road through Veruša, while the still snow-covered peaks of Komovo rise in the distance. We quickly come across the macadam and, I could say, this is where our adventure begins. Veruša is rich in water, so our path is often blocked by some water or a puddle smiles at us. However, we are still active, so the journey does not tire us. In a few kilometers we reach Mokra.
Prokletius peaks as guards
We move to the left, along the sharp slope of the Panina peak. The macadam is getting bigger and the incline is getting bigger, so we drive as carefully and slowly as possible. We would like to have some "enduro" or even more "cross". And then something fascinating. Just when we started to frown from the macadam that bursts under us, the panorama of the Bukumir Lake opens up.
Lucky there is a photo, because this would be really hard to describe. The peaks of the Prokletije massif, like guards, guard a small mountain eye.
A few more kilometers of road to the lake await us. We drive slowly, as if enchanted by the view of the lake. Bukumirko jezera is located at the 40th kilometer from Kolašin.
The lake is not big, but it is quite deep and what is even more interesting is full of fish.
While looking at the mystical color of the lake, you are occasionally transported by the jump of a trout. The water, like in any other glacial lake, is cold at this time of the year, so we will skip any possible swimming (and the legends about the Bukumir salamander...).
We didn't forget the mats and sandwiches, so we spend a pleasant two hours by the lake. The paving of the road from Podgorica made this beautiful corner of Montenegro more widely known and today you can often meet groups of mountaineers, hikers or foreigners who want to see something more than a tourist package.
We return to Kuči and then to Ubli (70 km from Kolašin). The rock formations in Kuči and the rise in temperature made us a little tired, so we stop to replenish the lost fluids, in front of the small store in the center.
It begins with a conversation with the host, which ends with the opening of the map at the store's main desk and detailed comments about the traveled and possible routes. The host also recommends some new tours to us, but we'll talk about that another time...
