Residents are particularly concerned that animals are increasingly attacking passers-by, stealing bags or food from their hands or pockets.
As AFP writes, these "attacks" are most often grouped around the hotel, where large quantities of food are found in containers.
Attempts to control the birth of monkeys in Hong Kong date back to 2002, when a program was implemented for the contraception of animals living in the city, so males were sterilized and females were occasionally injected with contraceptives.
The latest program involves the sterilization of females, which is carried out twice a month and is supposed to reduce the number of monkeys in Hong Kong to 1.500.
In all the action, it turned out to be the biggest problem - how to catch the monkey.
"It is very difficult to catch a monkey. We tried everything - we used nets, cages, stun guns, slingshots and many other traps. However, this could only be used a few times, because the animals quickly realized that it was traps," veterinarian Paolo Martelli, who heads one of the monkey birth control teams, told AFP.
According to him, after some time, the monkeys learn to recognize the members of the team that is looking for them, as well as their vehicles, so they start to avoid them.
And those who are used to the monkey situation in Hong Kong say that the best way to avoid monkeys is to ignore them.
