Actor Matthew Perry had both money and fame. He was one of the most famous faces of the small screen, he was adored all over the world, and the series "Friends" still has a place in the hearts of many who watched it in the nineties. For the last few years, he has been surprising his followers with his appearance, and many do not understand how he managed to change and leave.
Matthew celebrates his 51st birthday today, but he is no longer a shadow of the sarcastic, lovable boy everyone loved in the comedy series that made him famous. He received a million dollars per episode, and women threw themselves into his arms to look into his "sad" blue eyes. But real drama was happening in his private life, he was falling apart mentally, he reports Vecernji list.
Alcoholism, an addiction to painkillers and several visits to rehab clinics... Perry's life was far from glamorous. This was caused by an accident he had in 1997 while carelessly driving a jet ski. After that, he suffered from great pain, so the doctor prescribed him Vicodin, a drug to which he became addicted.
He was in "Friends" from the age of 24 to 34. With the rest of the cast of that series, he was on all the front pages and constantly in the public eye. But in real life he felt very lonely and just drank. In an interview, he shocked the whole world when he said that he does not remember the three years he spent on the set of "Friends". He realized that he had to do something, so he went to a rehab center for 28 days. He said it was one of the scariest experiences of his life. He stopped using opiates, but continued to drink.

And then came a new shock - he fell ill with acute pancreatitis, a disease that alcoholics and drug addicts suffer from. He claimed that it was a bad diet, but he still ended up in rehab again. As soon as he got out, he crashed the new Porsche into the house. He said that it had been a terrible day for him and that he was going to visit his father to cheer himself up. And then in 2011, he went to a rehab center for the third time, but this time only as a precaution.
"I plan to spend a month in an institution for my mental health. Feel free to make fun of me on the Internet" - said the actor before he retired from the public eye. Perry never stopped acting, from a young age it was his greatest love, along with tennis. But he did not achieve greater success. Most of his television roles, while the only successful film in which he acted was the comedy "The Soft-Hearted Killer" from 2000.
No one thought he didn't have potential, but he couldn't escape Chandler from "Friends" or his personal demons. He moved and turned his old home into a rehabilitation center for male addicts. For this reason, he was awarded by the former US President Obama. However, the idea did not take off because already in 2015 he had to sell the house, which was expensive to maintain because he was not earning as much as before.
He wants to help others, but judging by his Twitter posts, he's still struggling with himself. So a few months ago he wrote that the psychiatrist threw him out of the office. At the time, the media claimed that he was again in a rehab clinic and was trying to find girls for sex there, but he did not confirm this. It seems that the breakup with Molly Hurwitz took a toll on him, as he became even more self-absorbed after that.
Perry, together with other colleagues from "Friends", was supposed to film a special for HBO in which the crew from the series was supposed to reunite, but the filming was postponed several times due to the coronavirus.
