His longevity is enviable, because Larry the cat has been in the "function" of Downing Street for ten years and under his "reign" there were three British prime ministers.
However, everything was not easy for the tabby and white cat until he crossed the threshold of the residence of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, exactly on February 15, 2011. Larry left the sanctuary at the age of four, and his first mission in the heart of the British government was to hunt mice.
Chosen for his true predatory instinct, Larry was named "Chief Mouse Hunter," a title his predecessors had not had the honor of holding.
The government's expectations were high, but Larry still disappointed some. Although then Prime Minister David Cameron praised him for catching three mice in the first months, Larry's success was not great. However, the cat stayed - and the mice run around.
In his biographical note on the official website of the British government, it is stated that Larry managed to win the hearts of the public, and while waiting for the statements of the officials in front of the residence, the journalists gladly offer him some snacks and pet him.
Larry is also tasked with trying out old furniture for his naps. As for the mouse hunt, it is currently in the "tactical planning" phase. When Cameron resigned in 2016 after the referendum on Great Britain's exit from the European Union, the prime minister left, but the cat remained.
Larry will then live with Theresa May and now with Boris Johnson.
The cat refuses interviews, but still wrote a book, with the help of journalists. He is very active on Twitter, where he has a profile and more than 430.000 followers.
Who is hiding behind that profile? It is not known, but Larry persistently claims that no one from the human species helps him write a message on Twitter.
In a statement to France Press about the secret of his longevity, Larry said that he is constantly in residence while politicians just pass by.
"You have to remember that I live here all the time, the politicians stay with me until they are fired. Sooner or later these politicians realize that I am actually the boss," said Larry.
