An abandoned dog that became an Internet sensation in China was sold at an auction for 160.000 yuan, or 25.000 US dollars, writes the BBC.
A Shiba Inu dog named Deng Deng was abandoned at a pet training center seven years ago, and his owner never returned, reports the BBC.
Since then, Deng Deng lives in the center, but no one pays for his stay.
According to media reports, the center sued the owner, demanding that he pay the costs.
But after a Beijing court failed to reach the owner, the eight-year-old dog was put up for sale.
The video advertisement attracted the attention of users of the Chinese social network Weibo, where many expressed sympathy for the fate of the dog, reports N1.
The online auction attracted huge interest, and Deng Deng sold for 320 times the original asking price of $78.
The auction was supposed to last 24 hours but was extended for another five after it attracted 480 participants, with 166.000 viewers.
The identity of the owner has not been disclosed.
