A page of original artwork from the acclaimed 1984 Spider-Man comic has sold for a record $3,36 million in the United States.

The page shows the first appearance of Spidey's black symbiotic suit that would later lead to the creation of the anti-hero Venom in the artwork of Mike Bunny from the Marvel Super Heroes series, reports N1.

“This site was a great find! This is where Peter Parker actually got his new black costume,” says Heritage Auctions in its description.

“But… it's a costume with a secret! Because very quickly it turns out that he is alive and that he has his own agenda. That's the source of the Venom character!”

Bidding for the artwork started at $330.000.

The previous record for a page from the inside of an American comic book was $657.250, for a frame showing the first image of Wolverine in the 1974 issue of "The Incredible Hulk."

A copy of the action comic from 1938 no. 1, the first appearance of Superman, sold for $3,18 million on the first day of a four-day auction in Dallas, Texas, the auction house announced on Twitter.
