Actor couple Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher collected more than 30 million dollars in aid for refugees from Ukraine, who left their country fleeing the conflict with Russia, reports CNN.
Cooney and Kutcher, who became famous as teenagers in the series "The Seventies", previously planned to collect donations in the amount of three million.
In a video clip that Kucer shared on his profile on the social network Instagram, his wife mockingly thanks everyone who helped raise money.
"More than 65 thousand of you donated. We are grateful for the support," said the actress, adding that she is aware that donations will not solve the crisis between the two countries.
"But our collective effort can ensure an easier fall for many people as they move forward into an uncertain future," she noted.
”We will do everything we can to ensure that the love you have given as part of this campaign finds its way to maximum impact on those who need it most. "As donations continue to come in, we will treat every dollar as if it were donated from our own pocket," Kucer promised.
The International Organization for Migration reported that since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the end of February, more than three million refugees have left that country, and that most of them are now in neighboring countries, namely Romania, Moldova and Poland. Also, about 6.48 Ukrainians left their homes, because they were moved to other parts of the country due to security reasons.
According to public data from the GoFundMe site, for the collection of money, by Sunday evening, about 69.300 individuals have paid assistance, which now amounts to 34 million dollars.
Kunis, who points out that she is a "proud Ukrainian" in the video announcing the start of the campaign, revealed that she was born in 1983 in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi, but moved to the United States with her parents as a girl.
"Ukrainians are a proud and brave people who deserve our help at a time when they need it the most. The unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity is disappointing and the people in that country need our support," the actress said earlier.
All the money she and Kucher raised with the help of the GoFundMe platform will be divided equally between two organizations: the transportation company Flexport, which organizes the sending of aid packages for Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, and Airbnb, a company that provides free online advertising (and finding) temporary accommodation.
The acting couple was joined by other stars such as actor Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who also collect donations for Ukrainian refugees, but also the famous model Gigi Hadid who donated her monthly fee.
