Herzegnov comic festival: 18 years of celebrating the ninth art

Ćurčin worked to ensure that this festival grows year after year and attracts comic fans from all over the world. Today, HNSF celebrates 18 years of existence, confirming its status as an unmissable cultural event for all admirers of the ninth art.

This year's edition brings exceptional guests

This year, the Herzegovina Strip Festival hosted over 150 artists from more than 20 countries. Among others, famous names like Jill Thompson and Gene Ha from the USA, Tony Sandoval from Mexico and Jordi Tarragona from Spain contributed to the festival bringing together the biggest world names from the world of comic art.

The legendary Tanino Liberatore arrived from Italy, while talents from other countries such as Nina Vakueva, Anna Morozova and Eric Herenguel made this event even more special. This impressive list of guests provided an unforgettable experience for all visitors, reports the portal Gamers Life.

Support for young talents

One of the key missions of HNSF is bringing the world of comics closer to younger generations. The festival organized a series of workshops for elementary and high school students, and the lecturers were internationally recognized experts. Among them, Đorđo Pentrali stands out, who led a master class on storyboarding. Workshops like this not only promote comics as art, but also encourage creativity among young people, while giving them the opportunity to learn directly from top professionals.

What sets HNSF apart?

In addition to an impressive artistic program, Herzegnov Comic Festival also stands out for its rich musical content. The festival is completed every year by the performances of the best pop and rock groups from the region, creating a unique atmosphere that combines art, music and culture. Festival guest Andrew Scott from Great Britain described the HNSF as a "cultural marvel" and stated that "anyone who tries to make a bigger festival would have to do it on the moon".

The connection between comics and video games

At this year's festival, visitors enjoyed the rich offer of the strip club "Mr No" from Podgorica. The club offers a wide range of comics, from American Marvel and DC releases, to Japanese manga and European classics. It's interesting how the world of comics intertwines with the world of video games - from games for old consoles like the Commodore 64, to modern PlayStation 5 titles, the connection between these mediums is obvious and growing.

The future of comics in Montenegro

Filip Andronik, one of the lecturers at the festival, emphasizes the importance of such events for the development of comics among young people. Although Herceg Novi currently does not have a permanent comics school, the festival plays a key role in stimulating interest among young people. Andronik believes that in the future, with increasing interest, schools and workshops will be established that will further develop this form of art in Montenegro.
