The films "Frankenstein," "Wicked: For Good" and "One Battle After Another" won top prizes at the 28th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, held Thursday night in Los Angeles.
The first-ever costume award at the ceremony went to Kate Hawley for Netflix's "Frankenstein" in the historical genre category. She was also nominated for an Oscar, and since the Costume Designers Guild Awards were formed in 1999, there have only been four times that the Academy has not honored costumes that the association has named the best.
In the fantasy category, Paul Tazewell was awarded for best costumes he created for "Wicked: For Good," his second accolade, having won the same award last year for the first installment.
Colleen Atwood won the award in the contemporary film category for "One Battle After Another." She has previously won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design four times, for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (2017), "Alice in Wonderland (2011), "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2006) and "Chicago" (2003). She has also been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design eight times in the past 30 years.
