A new artificial intelligence video generator created by Beijing-based ByteDance, home of the social network TikTok, has sparked outrage among Hollywood associations, saying Seedance 2.0 "blatantly" infringes on copyright by using actors' likenesses without their permission.
Seedance 2.0, which is currently only available in China, can create high-quality AI video using only simple text, which has drawn criticism from the film and TV industry.
The Motion Picture Association said that Seedance 2.0 "engages in unauthorized use of US copyrights on a massive scale."
Irish director Ruairi Robinson has shared a disturbing video created with the help of the Seedance 2.0 AI generator, which shows Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt fighting in a post-apocalyptic scenario.
"I hate to say this, but apparently this is the end for all of us," Rhett Reese, the screenwriter of the "Deadpool" films, commented on the video to the director's post.
The SAG acting union said it "stands with Hollywood in condemning the brazen copyright infringement" enabled by Seedance 2.0.
