Grace Jones' career was marked from the beginning by a refusal to conform to convention.
The former disco queen and new wave icon has always done things her own way, from musical covers like her dub-funk rendition of "Warm Leatherette" to fashion releases that have marked the industry, to acting roles in films. Her career has always been driven by complete originality and a desire to break the rules, and that's the same when it comes to food.
This unconventionality is evident in her attitude towards oysters. While most people strictly follow the rules of when to eat them, how to choose them, and how to check their freshness, Jones does not pay attention to this.
She is known for being able to eat up to forty oysters at once, with a glass of white wine, and this detail is reportedly even included in her performance requirements.
What is especially important to her is not just the taste, but the entire process of opening the shells. As she explained, she enjoys opening the oysters herself.
"I like to open my own oysters. I'm very good at it. I open them professionally. I enjoy the ritual. What will it look like when I open it? How much liquid will be in it? What sauce will I put in? Or maybe just lemon? Maybe this one doesn't need anything?" she said.
For her, she says, the whole experience is more important than the bite itself.
"I love the feeling they give me. There's nothing like it," she added.
