Bring Me the Horizon singer Ollie Sykes was hit by a phone thrown onto the stage during a concert on Monday night, and the musician has now revealed that he suffered a mild concussion as a result of the impact.
Sykes made the announcement via Instagram Stories after a video went viral showing him being hit by an object during a performance.
"I'm fine, just wanted to let everyone know. The phone in my head definitely hurt and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling has gone down a lot," he wrote.
The "Can You Feel My Heart" singer explained that he struggled throughout the rest of the performance after being hit, and apologized to the audience.
"I had trouble on stage after that because singing put a lot of pressure on the injury and made me feel disoriented during the performance, so I apologize if it came across as a lack of heartfelt performance," he added.
"Thank you to everyone who asked questions and cared about me," the musician emphasized.
The incident with Sykes is reminiscent of a worrying trend that has plagued live music events in recent years - objects being thrown at performers while they are performing on stage.
Kelly Clarkson, Bebe Rexha, Ava Max, Drake, Harry Styles and Billie Eilish are just a few of the performers who have been the targets of such disturbing attacks by concertgoers in recent years.
During a performance in Las Vegas in 2023, Adele also spoke about this trend.
"Have you noticed how people in America forget basic etiquette at concerts? They just throw things on stage," the "Someone Like You" singer told the audience at the time.
