Popular singer Shakira has denied fake photos that allegedly show her supporting a presidential candidate in the upcoming Colombian elections.
"Photos circulating online of me allegedly supporting a presidential candidate are false," the singer said in a statement reported by Billboard.
"I do not endorse any candidate, nor have I approved the use of my image in any campaign," she added.
These photos represent the latest attempt to link Shakira to Gustavo Cepeda. Earlier this year, unfounded claims emerged that the singer and the candidate were distantly related.
Shakira has not made any public statements supporting any candidate in the election.
"My commitment is to Colombia, its democracy and the right of every Colombian to freely choose. I want these elections to be transparent and in a peaceful atmosphere for all Colombian citizens," she said.
The controversial posts appeared on the X platform and have since been deleted. They used references to Shakira's fan community, including the names "Wolfpack" and "La Manada de Lobos" (The Wolf Pack).
"La Manada de Lobos joins the cause for Colombia," read one post alongside a photo showing Shakira, Cepeda and his running mate Aida Quilcué.
"Because Shakira taught us that education is key to fighting inequality in our country," the post said.
Shakira, along with Madonna and BTS, will be one of the main stars of the first half-time show in the history of the World Cup final.
The final will be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. For the first time in World Cup history, a spectacular musical performance modeled after the Super Bowl final will be organized during halftime.
Chris Martin from the band Coldplay is responsible for organizing and selecting the performers, who confirmed the main performers in a recent video posted on social media.
