Madonna and Julia Garner collaboration

Fans may have to wait a little longer to find out if Julia Garner will actually play Madonna in her biopic, but they don't have to wait to see their film collaboration, writes The Hollywood Reporter.

The star of "Ozark" and "The Americans" appears in a brief cameo role in a club scene in Madonna's visual album "Confessions II," which premiered Friday night to a packed house of enthusiastic fans at the Tribeca Festival in New York.

The short film, which runs for more than ten minutes and follows the first six songs from Madonna's upcoming album "Confessions II," shows the Queen of Pop being pursued by a SWAT team of robot-like women carrying cameras.

The story begins in an apartment, where Madonna hides "in the shadows" while singing "I Feel So Free," then moves to a forest where she dances with scantily clad women and men whose bodies emit laser beams. She then drives a car, goes to a nightclub, and then to a crowded bathroom where she and her celebrity friends throw a dance party before the celebration returns to her home.

Madonna is joined by a number of celebrities during the film, directed by David Thoreau and Solomon Chase, known as TORSO, which will premiere on YouTube on Monday.

Among them are Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, Gwendoline Christie and her duet partner from the song "Bring Your Love", Sabrina Carpenter.

The last familiar face to appear in the film is Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon, who ends the film with the words: "Cut, bitch."

Madonna later revealed that she and Lourdes co-wrote one of the songs on her new album, Confessions II.

Julia Garner's appearance isn't the only connection between the new visual album and the long-anticipated Madonna biopic. Garner was previously cast as Madonna, while the singer herself insisted on writing the script.

Although Garner said last summer that the film "should still happen," the project was shelved by Universal Pictures in 2023. However, Madonna said in 2024 that she was working on the script again. It was also announced last year that she was collaborating with director and producer Shawn Levy on a limited series for Netflix.
