Following Kyle Eastwood's statements, Wikipedia editors had to make a significant change to the page dedicated to Clint Eastwood - for the first time, the actor, director and musician, born in 1930 in San Francisco, was marked as "retired".
The designation was added on his 96th birthday, after the media reported a statement his son, Kyle, gave to the French television network France 3.
A composer and jazz musician, he spoke about the experience of working with his father on several films.
"I have many fond memories of working with him. He's retired now - he's 95. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of films," Kyle said.
However, Clint Eastwood, who directed his last film, “Juror No. 2,” in 2024, has never publicly commented on his eventual retirement from the film industry. Throughout his career, he has always avoided using the word “retirement.”
His last public comments date back to 2025, when an alleged interview appeared in the Austrian newspaper Kurier in which he was quoted as saying that he had no intention of putting aside his directing career and stopping making films.
The actor soon issued a statement clarifying that the interview was fabricated.
"In recent days, several news stories have appeared about me. I felt I should clarify things. I can confirm that I have turned 95. I can also confirm that I have not given an interview to the Austrian publication Kurier, nor to any other journalist in recent weeks, and that this alleged interview is completely fabricated," he said.
After an investigation, the editorial board of Kurier magazine found that the journalist had compiled the interview from all the statements she had collected from Eastwood over the years, but they removed it from the website on the grounds that she had misled the public by presenting it as a fresh interview.
