Spielberg is certain that aliens have visited Earth

Director Steven Spielberg is certain that Earth has "absolutely" been visited by an alien civilization.

Spielberg has frequently addressed the subject of extraterrestrial life throughout his career, particularly in films such as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "ET The Extra-Terrestrial," and "War of the Worlds."

His latest film, "Disclosure Day," which also deals with a conspiracy to cover up the existence of alien life, is set to open in theaters this week. Ahead of its release, CBS News asked Spielberg if he believes aliens have visited Earth and "maybe they could still be here."

"Based on all the circumstantial evidence I've gathered throughout my life, everything I've heard from other people, every documentary I've watched, and all the congressional testimony I've listened to, I absolutely believe they were here and they are here," he replied.

"And who knows, maybe they've always been here," the director added.

"Disclosure Day," starring Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo and Colin Firth, follows a whistleblower who races against time to expose a government conspiracy to hide knowledge about aliens from the public.
