Jennifer Lopez "saved" Matthew McConaughey from the police

Actor Matthew McConaughey has revealed how working with actress and singer Jennifer Lopez helped him avoid problems with border police in Mexico.

Before his big career breakthrough in the 2010s, the actor was known for his romantic comedies. One of the most successful was 2001's "The Wedding Planner," in which Lopez plays the title character - a wedding planner who falls in love with her client's fiancé, played by McConaughey.

The film was a huge box office hit, and over time it became a cult title among fans of the genre. In a new interview, McConaughey revealed that it was the film that once helped him avoid serious trouble with the law.

"'The Wedding Planner' got me out of big, big trouble in Mexico once," the Oscar winner recalled on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

"One night I arrived late and was crossing the border way down south. They stopped me, and that was the stop where they recognized me - a white guy in a pickup truck, a nice truck. I thought, 'Oh, no... I'm getting my wallet out. Here it is.' And the situation was getting more and more serious," the actor said.

Then, he says, he tried to find a way to calm the situation.

"Then I said, 'Do you know Jennifer Lopez?' And then, 'Have you seen 'The Wedding Planner'?' And I said, 'Yeah, yeah, that's me.'"

The officers then realized who they were talking to, and then asked him to take a photo with them.

"And then they let me go," McConaughey concluded with a laugh.
