Actor and comedian Pete Davidson is now 33 years old - the same age as his firefighter father when he died on September 11, 2001, Fox News reminds us.
"I thought, 'Oh, he was an old man. He was 33.' But now I'm that age, I have a child, and it would be like my child growing up without a father," Davidson told the New York Post, marking the anniversary of the collapse of the Twin Towers.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy, Davidson participated in a comedy benefit at Madison Square Garden alongside Jon Stewart.
“This year is especially hard, but also especially beautiful, because I get to spend that day with Scotty,” he said of his daughter, who was born last December and named after his late father.
"It will be very healing and special," he added.
Davidson has a daughter with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt.
"It was really nice that Elsie wanted us to call her Scotty too. My father's name was Scott, but his nickname was Scotty. When she was born, we both looked at her and said, 'She looks like Scotty.' It's nice that the name will live on," he revealed.
Last year, while appearing on Theo Vaughn's podcast, Davidson explained that his father's fire crew was the first to cross the bridge in a truck and head towards the World Trade Center.
"So they were the first truck to get there and practically the entire fire department died, which is sad, but at least he died with his friends," he said at the time.
"My memories are sparse because I was only seven years old, but I remember that we laughed a lot, that he was quite well-built, that he smoked a lot of cigarettes and that he drove a Subaru Impreza. That's all I remember," the actor and comedian added at the time.
"I was very young, so I didn't know what had happened, so it all hit me later. When I was in college, I thought, 'I'm so angry about this,'" he recalled.
"It's all really f*cked up, actually, but I have his badge, his chain and... because they were all pretty burned up, that's how they knew it was him. I have that too and I keep it in a safe because, with my luck, I'm going to lose it," Davidson said, adding that he has his father's jacket, which he previously kept on display in his home, but decided to put it away because he didn't want it to be a constant depressing reminder of the tragedy.
