The last album of the band SARS was recently released, and fans of their sound will be able to enjoy old and new hits tomorrow evening on the square in Nikšić as part of the celebration of 120 years of the Nikšić brewery.
Although, thanks to the numerous hits, they could play for hours, socializing with the fans in Nikšić will be limited, and as Vanja Radovanović and Toni Cetinski will be performing alongside them that evening, the performance will be shorter than usual.
"We will try to make a section of the complete discography. We are aware that the audience will not hear all the songs they like, but we will play as much as the organizers allow. We will also perform three new songs that are already in the repertoire", Žarko Kovačević, the frontman of SARS, told the news.
Those three tracks are "Rotten Apple", "Da ima" and "Pepeo", and Kovačević points out that they are satisfied with the reactions to the others from the last release as well.
"We chose these three because we think they sound the best live, we didn't look at the comments and previews on the YouTube service. I think that the ballad "Pepeo" went the best with the audience, they react well to it at performances, and it is the most popular on social networks. Also, one of the songs that the audience singled out is "Razgulijana", so it will probably be in the repertoire soon", Kovačević promises.
When the band appeared on the scene 10 years ago, it attracted attention with socially engaged songs. The first in the series was "Buđav lebac", followed by "Perspektiva", "To Rade". The new album brings many more love tracks.
"It is not mandatory that they have to be only socially engaged songs. I haven't analyzed this album, but it seems to me that there are at least half of them. Basically, our songs reflect the current situation. My brother is a songwriter and it depends on him what kind of lyrics we will have, and he is probably in a more emotional period now, as there are so many love affairs", Kovačević points out with a laugh.
He revealed that one of his and the audience's favorites, the ballad "Pepeo", was created in 2009, when their famous "Doll" was also. The lyrics of this track differ from other works by SARS.
"The audience is used to our ballads, and it is true that 'Ashes' is different. When we wrote it, it differed from all the tracks on the album, that's why we waited so long to officially release it. Fortunately, the audience responds to her brilliantly, and she immediately stood out", says Kovačević.
Although this is their last album, SARS will not be absent from music, but remains of the opinion that they will only record singles in the future. The musicians haven't changed their minds when it comes to songs in another language, so even though they've been played more and more in Europe and the world lately, they will record exclusively in Serbian.
"To be honest, in Australia we were surprised that the audience knew us. We went on tour with the Blue Orchestra, aware that they were stars, but it was nice to know that the audience there was following what the musicians were releasing, and it was heartening to hear them sing with us.
We've been playing in Europe lately, but mostly our people come to our gigs, that's why we don't need to release singles and albums in English like some other bands", concluded Kovačević.
Because of the concert, Žarko misses two exams
Of the songs with social themes, for which they are known, the sharpest were in "Diploma", which they recorded with the frontman of Per Deformer, Goran Biševac. Kovačević is a student of audio and video technology, and when asked if it is really as they say "for those who need learning, knowledge is no longer important, only paper is important", he answers:
"By studying, you acquire habits and gain some new knowledge, however, you can be great when it comes to theory, for a job well done, practice is more important," Kovačević believes. As he claims, he does not use popularity at the university, but behaves like other students.
"For the previous two years, I had no need to use it. Now I'm already on my third and due to the increasing number of concerts, I'm slowly falling behind. It happens that I miss the exercises, but on Friday I have two exams that I will have to skip because of the gig in Nikšić.
Until now, some professors met me and gave me extra deadlines for exercises, and when it comes to the exam, you have to sit down and warm up the chair. There is no other," he points out.
