Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio are preparing the musical "On Your Feet" about their life, which will be shown on Broadway this fall.
The play is the story of two Cuban immigrants who embraced the American dream and now have enough Grammys to fill a swimming pool.
In a statement regarding the musical, Gloria Estefan said that its release coincides with the presidential campaign in the USA, in which immigrants are one of the main topics.
"We've been around long enough that we've been through a few election cycles. Every time there's some fear instilled. This (musical) strikes a great balance because we need to remind people that we're only human too," she said.
In the musical, her hits "1-2-3", "Turn the Beat Around" and "Conga" will accompany the story of how the young singer and the producer met, how they fought for success, how they overcame family disputes and the bus accident. the accident in which Gloria almost lost her life.
It is the story of two people who escaped from their native country, made a new life in Miami and how they reached the top of the music world. Estefan said it is also the glory of immigration for a nation of immigrants.
"It doesn't matter where you come from. Because unless you're Native American, you're not from here. Somewhere in the past, you come from a long place," said Gloria Estefan, who has sold more than 100 million albums. She added that the last to arrive are always the most attacked.
The musical "On Your Feet" comes out at the same time as some potential Republican presidential candidates are taking aim at Mexican and Muslim immigrants.
"One thing these people don't understand is that we appreciate being in this country and we want to contribute," said Emilio Estefan, who has managed the careers of many stars, including Shakira, Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez.
Emilia will be played by Josh Segarra, who appeared on Broadway in Lysistrata Jones, and Gloria by Anna Villafane, who appeared in Magic City Memoirs.
