From next year, the Grammy music awards will be awarded in 31 fewer categories than before, announced the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
The biggest news concerns the men's and women's categories - from this year there will be no more.
"The best singer is the best singer, regardless of gender.
These are the most prestigious music awards and should remain so. Not everyone can win them," said Grammy Awards President Neil Portnow. So both men and women will compete in the same categories
Among the excluded categories are those in the field of pop, r'n'b and country.
Between 25 and 39 performers will be nominated, and only three will be in the final. So far, the Grammys have been awarded in 109 categories, and from 2012 there will be 78.
The ceremony is traditionally held in February, but the date for next year has not yet been announced.
