Montenegrin rock veterans from the group Katapult recently released a new single "Otkad te nema", and singer Goran Pejović Gula has now told "Vijesta" that the song was sent to a competition for Montevizija, but was disqualified.
Unfair, considers the musician who is currently in Belgrade, where he is working on the upcoming album, the new single of which he announced.
"I decided to try a little with the acoustic guitar, to make it a little specific, to sound a little different from what we have done so far. We have a lot of albums behind us and we have to change a bit stylistically. I had sent that song to Montevizia. They asked me not to write my name and surname on the envelope, I tried to send it that way, but they told me at the post office that if it is not written, they cannot send it outside of Serbia. I also inform Vlad Maraš, I tell him nicely that he can't do otherwise and he disqualifies me. And I know that some sent from Belgrade and from abroad, how are they not disqualified?", Gula asks.
He said that he had no ambition to win at Montevizia, but he wanted to use the opportunity to present the song to as wide an audience as possible. Gula signed the text and music for "Odkad te nema", while the arrangement was made by Aleksandar Kovačević, and the song can be heard on the YouTube service.
More than a decade has passed since Katapult's last studio album "Pjesma za Sandra M", released in 2006, and in the meantime two "best of" compilations have been released, the single "Urke" and last year's release "Katapult Live" published by Gold production. A new album will be released under the auspices of that house, Gula confirmed.
"We started working on the next album. There will be nine songs on it and it will be a bit different stylistically than this one so far, primarily in terms of production and arrangement. Part of the production will also be done by Dragan Jovanović Krle from Generacija 5. He will be a guest on the album, playing guitar on several songs. There won't be any duets, but there will be a lot of musicians, from violins to harmonica, so something stylistically very different", assures the musician.
The new edition should come out during the year, but Gula could not yet say exactly when.
"That depends on Gold production, which will release the album for us in cooperation with Croatia Records for the market of the former Yugoslavia. At least that's the deal. And the album will come out when it suits them, we don't decide that, the material will be ready before the summer", the musician from Bar further explained.
He complained that the musicians from this area cannot get anything from the release of the album today, except for personal satisfaction.
"But when a man loves it, it's hard to know how to stop. When a man enters that story, it becomes a part of his life, until the end. And as far as that certain material side is concerned, there is nothing there. Many think it's easy for them, but it's not like that," he says.
When it comes to concerts, Gula hinted at two in Montenegro, but added that more can be expected when the album is released.
"I was thinking of doing it soon in Podgorica and Bar. A band's birthday can be counted from the moment it got together or from the time the first album was released. If we count by the album, this year would be the 30th birthday, so we might as well celebrate that. In any case, there will be concerts. And we'll see the rest, I have some smaller solo performances, but that's less significant. And we were supposed to do a concert in Belgrade's House of Trade Unions, but it has been under renovation for a year now, so we are thinking whether to wait or look for another solution," revealed the singer.
It is impossible to change anything with a song
Love will not be missing on the new release, because songs like the announcement single will be mostly inspired by her.
"The topic will mainly be about love, the rest of what I wanted to say I said in the song 'Urke'." There are the key verses, there I drew Montenegro as it is. I think that making socially engaged songs and trying to do something with it is ridiculous, because nobody takes you seriously and that's our reality. So instead, let people enjoy beautiful love lyrics. Engaged topics are better handled by younger musicians, they have more energy for it. But realistically, it is impossible to change anything with a song", Gula assessed. He added that he recently liked the song "Lomi ga" by Podgorica rapper Đuro Franeta.
