After releasing their first single "Australia" a few months ago, the Montenegrin pop rock band "The Grupa" decided to present themselves to audiences all over Montenegro through performances. Until now, they only had concerts on the coast at festivals and events, and on Tuesday, August 27, they will perform for the first time in the capital of Montenegro. Their performance will start at 21:XNUMX PM in the atrium of "The Capital Plaza", and according to saxophonist Željko Vasović, this will be a concert to remember, because no one has yet left their performance indifferent.
In addition to him, the band consists of Đurđa Petrović Poljak - vocals, Predrag Batuta - vocals and saxophone, Petar Bukilica - guitar, Branko Marković - bass, Božidar Martinović - piano, Anto Milošević - drums and Stefan Stešević - trumpet.
What is characteristic of your club gigs?
Our club gigs are distinctive because of ourselves. A club that hires a band of eight members, and that band has a brass section, all instruments, singing in polyphony, is certainly interesting to visit, because you will not leave indifferent. The biggest characteristic of our band is the specific energy that is our trademark.
How many songs do you have in your repertoire and how often do you add to it?
We have about a hundred songs in our repertoire, which we actively use and adapt to the needs of the audience, but by no means do we go beyond the framework of pop & rock music. Also, we often change the repertoire to follow current trends. All this requires hard work, many rehearsals and performances. When preparing the songs in the selection, we are guided by some basic suggestions, but it also depends on how a certain song "fits" for us.
Which song gave you the most trouble while preparing it?
We couldn't say which song gave us the most problems, because sometimes we master a difficult composition sooner than an easier one. I think that the song should be tailored to the band and that the band should have its own style, both in original songs and in the choice of covers.
There are enough of you in the band, how much less frequent are The Grupa's gigs because of this, and do you make compromises to make a shortened version of the band, in order to play in some venues?
The members of our band are very active musicians, they have their own private projects, but when it comes to The Grupa, we only perform as a full band and we don't make any compromises.
Is there a song you avoid singing at shows?
Due to frequent performances, we sometimes get bored of some songs and start to avoid them at performances. However, when we remember those tracks after a long time, we get excited all over again. However, I think that none of our embankments can be imagined without Dino Dvornik or Oliver Mandić.
Do you play at performances of original songs?
At all our performances, we play original songs, I think it's the best advertisement and that way the composition gets into the audience's ears the easiest.
What have you learned from performing at venues?
"Live" performances are the best way to learn why you are actually there, you play and sing on stage, some people listen to you... Ok, you love music and you are dedicated to it, but that's not all, you are on stage because of the people who are your audience, who listen to you with pleasure, follow your performances, you have to do your best to make them satisfied... In the end, their mood depends on you, and then your motive depends on them. And that is the interaction at the performances, without which the "mission" is not fulfilled.
