Bar rock band "Akademia" last year recorded the song "Waiting for the 22nd Century", which was finished a few days ago, so they used the quarantine period to present it to the audience on Facebook and Instagram.
For now, the track, which was created in 1989, will not be uploaded to the YouTube channel, because as they say, they are waiting to record a music video, which will have to wait due to the current situation with the corona virus.
"Akademie" guitarist and music author Božidar Gagović tells how it came about that they finally recorded the track that was created 30 years ago.
"Our band hasn't recorded anything for years, because in the 90s we were more focused on gigs and performances, and a few years ago, when we started making original music, we didn't immediately remember it. Searching through some of my old recordings, I found the text written by Željko Milović, remembered the melody, then finished the demo that I sent to the other members of the band "Akademia", who liked it, so we recorded the song back in October at the Dobrilović brothers' house, while the mix was being done in the studio "Gain" with our friend Novak Brajović. We would like to thank Stefan Bjeletić, who played the trumpets, and Marija Brajović, who sang backing vocals," Gagović told "Vijesti".
"As the song was just finished a few days ago, it seemed to us that it was an ideal opportunity to release it now because it is serious and the lyrics are deep, right for this time. Of course, Željko corrected the text, so even though the first version was called 'Waiting for the 21st century', we moved it a hundred years ahead. This is the band's first song that received positive reviews from everyone who heard it, so we are also very satisfied, it's a real 'Academia,'" adds Gagović.
Although "Akademia" is recognized as a rock band, and the new single was made in a reggae sound, the interlocutor of "Vijesti" claims that they are not changing the genre.
"We record as we please, we are not slaves to genres or burdened by them. We wanted to remember some good times with her, the happy 80s, that's why she is in the electro-pop reggae style. I'm happy when we make a song that reminds me of better times," Gagović admits.
As he says, he is sure that there are more songs in his archive that he is yet to release.
"When all this with the corona is over, we plan to do two songs. One of them is 'Kao nekad', a track I once sang with Renata Perazić, while the new version will be sung by Gajo and Marija Brajović. Also, we are planning to record Maria's single that I did for her about 10 years ago - 'Do you have the courage', which was then in a dance style, while now it will sound in the pop rock genre. When we collect all that, I'm sure we'll collect enough songs, because we plan to release a second album by the end of the year," concludes Gagović.
