The new wave of Montenegrin rap continues to strengthen and expand, new names appear everywhere, and one of them is G Bane, who debuted with a song in English, which is a real rarity in our region, and he does not hide that he has high ambitions.
Nikola Banović, who stands behind the pseudonym G Bana, released the first "Lotta" that can be heard on the YouTube service, and he told "Vijesta" that in this song he conveyed his experiences of his first and so far only work on a cruise ship, for eight months for the company "Carnival Cruises Lines".
"It was a journey full of new life experiences and experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life, so I decided to turn it into a song in November of last year," said the rapper from Budva.
While it is somewhat more common with rock bands, rappers in these areas rarely decide to express themselves in English, and when they do, it is usually a matter of outings in the form of one or a couple of songs. Mr. Bane decided that it would be a feature of his expression and for a reason, and although he has never lived abroad, he points out that he has had a love for foreign languages, especially English, since he was a child. When it is added that he also worked as an English teacher in a private school, the rapper says that this language is like another English to him. "I decided not only to break into the domestic, but also the American, world scene, given that today's streaming platforms and the Internet itself make it possible," Banović is ambitious.
Thus, his debut EP "Switching Lanes" will be entirely in English, and "Lotta" serves as an announcement, revealed the rapper who said that he has been in love with hip hop since 2004 when he first heard Gru's album "Vetrenjače".
"That energy, flow, way of using the voice, percussion and expressing attitudes, ideas, life experiences through music immediately intrigued me. Even today, I know every song from that album by heart. At the end of the same year, when my friend from Switzerland came to visit, she played Eminem's 'Lose Yourself'. To me, it is like an average Balkan child, who then had 'dial up' Internet and almost no access to information from the world. At that moment, I knew I would do the same thing as him. Although I understood almost nothing, I felt that energy and over time fell more and more in love with hip hop culture. I also knew from the start that I would work in English, I didn't publish anything until now because I was perfecting it, and besides, as we all know , the Balkans are people who would rather condemn than support something new, so that anxiety from condemnation also played a certain role", explained G Bane.
