Taylor dethroned Whitney Houston

Pop singer Taylor Swift's album "Folklore" broke Whitney Houston's record for the number of weeks it spent at number one on the "Billboard" list of the 200 most played albums in the world.

Whitney Houston held the record for the most streamed album by a woman at the top of the chart for 46 weeks, and Swift broke that record yesterday when she reached her 47th week at number one.

Billboard's list of the 200 most played albums is based on the measurement of album sales, radio airplay and streaming.

By September 24, the album "Folklore" had sold more than 87.000 copies, and it had been downloaded 39,8 million times via streaming services. "Folklore" also broke the record for the sale of hand-signed copies of the album, and in addition, it is followed by a large sale of promotional material.

Swift also profited from the sale of a new version of the live performance of the single "Betty", which is on this album, and which the singer performed live during the award ceremony for the best country releases, which was held on September 16.

The singer also promoted this album on streaming services from September 21 under the label "theme songs from the album", which further strengthened her position on the first place of the "Billboard" list.

Thanks to these numbers, Taylor Swift reached her 47th week at the top of the list of the best female artists, breaking the record set by Whitney Houston back in 1992.

Houston held this record mostly thanks to the single "The Bodyguard soundtrack" from the album of the same name, which was the title song of the movie "The Bodyguard" in which the singer starred with Hollywood star Kevin Costner.

The leaders on this list who spent the most time in the first place are the Beatles, who were at the top for a total of 132 weeks from their 19 albums. Elvis Presley spent the most time as a solo artist at the top of the Billboard list with a total of 67 weeks.
