More than fifty British artists, including well-known musicians, actors, directors and producers, have sent an open letter to the BBC calling for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest in Israel, that is, for the leaders of that media house to ask for it to be held in another country, reports the world media.
According to the plan, the BBC should broadcast live the two semi-final nights and the final night of the Eurovision Song Contest on 14, 16 and 18 May.
"Eurovision may be easy entertainment, but that's no excuse not to look at human rights. We cannot ignore Israel's systematic violence against the human rights of Palestinians," the open letter reads.
"The European Broadcasting Union has chosen Tel Aviv as the venue, instead of occupied Jerusalem, but this does not make a big difference in protecting Palestinians from land theft, evictions, shootings, beatings and other things done by the Israeli military," the letter continued. This letter was sent to the BBC ten days before the "Eurosong: You Choose" competition, where on February 8 the musicians will present their tracks and the audience will choose the representative of Great Britain for the mentioned music competition.
"For artists with a conscience, it would be a questionable honor. Those artists and the BBC should know that 'You choose' does not apply to the Palestinians, because they cannot choose when it comes to Israeli occupation or when it comes to freedom. In the state law, even Palestinians with Israeli citizenship are exempted from the freedom of national self-determination, because that right is guaranteed only to Jews," the British artists state.
They consider it particularly hypocritical that the Eurosong celebrates diversity and inclusion. “The BBC has a duty to 'promote freedom of expression'. That's why he should act in accordance with his principles and pressure the leaders of Eurovision to move the event to another country, where a crime against freedom is not committed," added the letter signed by, among others, musician and Womad festival founder Peter Gabriel, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood , violinist Nancy Elan, members of the bands "Drones Club", "Wolf Alice" and many others.
Montenegro in the first part of the first semi-final
On the official website of the Eurosong event, the distribution of performers by semi-final evenings was also published. Thus, the Montenegrin representative will perform on May 14 in the first semi-final evening, and this year the winner of Montevizia will be able to hope for votes from Serbia and Slovenia, considering that competitors from those countries will also be presented on the same night. Albania, Macedonia and Croatia got their place in the second semi-final evening scheduled for May 16.
The Montenegrin, as well as the Serbian representative will perform in the first part of the evening, and the exact schedule will be known only when all the songs are announced, because the organizers take care that songs of a similar tempo are not performed in a row. The organizers of the popular music competition have also decided when the "big five" and last year's winner will vote, so the jury and audience from Spain, France and Israel will vote on the first night, and Germany, Italy and Great Britain on the second night.
The songs of the Montevisia participants will be published on Saturday
On the official Facebook page of Montevizia, it was announced yesterday that all the songs that will be performed at that event will be published on the YouTube channel on Saturday, February 2. This year, Ivana Popović (Innocence), Nina Petković (Take it or leave it), Andrea Demirović (I'm your dream), Monika Knezović (Nepoješivo) and the band "D moll" (You) will fight for the title of Montenegro's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest. consists of Tamara Vujačić, Mirela Ljumić, Željko Vukčević, Ivana Obradović, Emel Franca and Rizo Feratović.
