15 years ago, the Belgrade rapper Gru released the song "Stara škola, nova škola" in which he made a comparison between the older and newer generations of Serbian rappers, inviting representatives of both as guests. Dino Merlin's new song could have a similar title, or subtitle, an unexpected collaboration with probably the biggest pop star of the new mainstream wave, a Slovenian singer of Montenegrin roots who performs under the pseudonym Senidah.
One of the most popular singer-songwriters from the area of the former Yugoslavia, Edin Dervišhalidović, better known by his stage name Dino Merlin, continues to make hits even as he enters his fifth decade of playing music. The musician from Sarajevo overcame the problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic and ended last year with the announcement of a long-awaited new studio release, the first since the album "Hotel Nacional" from 2014.
Two months ago, he launched the hit "Mi", for which he shot the music video in Porto Montenegro on the Montenegrin coast. The video signed by Kukla collected almost 15 million views and was trending on YouTube not only in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, but also in countries like Austria and Germany. Up until now, every New Year's Eve has been celebrated in the squares of the largest cities by ex Yu, and since he was unable to do so this time due to the aforementioned pandemic, he treated his fans to a virtual New Year's concert that could be followed online around the world. And just as 2021 began, he was already serving the audience a new hit.
Dino Merlin has always tried to stay relevant, following the current musical trends, but surely few expected a collaboration with Senida, a singer who, with her combination of trep and modern r'n'b sound, conquered the region like few others in recent years, starting with the single "Slađana" released for the Bassivity publishing house, which two years ago was the biggest hit in this region and launched him into stardom.
Dino thus decided to host a new musical sensation from the ex-Yu space on the song "Dođi", and the video he re-signed "Kukla" can be viewed on the YouTube service.
"After a long and exhausting tour of the Hotel Nacional, I tried to find my peace again, a break from the world and people, so I decided to travel to a big city where, running away from everything, I tried to return to myself, only to find out - that I don't know how to be alone" , explained Dino Merlin, revealing how the lyrics of this song, for which he signed the text and music, were created.
The video was shot in Sarajevo and Lukomir, and Senidah said that this collaboration is a dream come true for her.
