The copyright holders of the late musician David Bowie have sold his collection of songs to Warner Music Group, The Washington Post reports.

As reported, one of the biggest music companies now owns a number of Bowie songs, including "Space Oddity", "Life on Mars" and "Ziggy Stardust".

"These are not just extraordinary songs, but a milestone that changed the course of modern music for all time," said Guy Muth, CEO of Warner Chappell.

"Bowie's vision and creative spirit pushed him to push boundaries, lyrically and musically, writing songs that sparked conversation and became part of global culture," he added.

The contract sold songs from 26 albums that Bowie released during his lifetime, as well as "Toy" released last year, which will soon receive a deluxe edition.

Also, Warner Music Group now owns the music that Bowie did for the movies, as well as many other works.

"This isn't just a music catalog, this is a collection of timeless, living, breathing songs that are just as powerful and meaningful as they were when they were written," added Warner's Kerien Marshall.

The price for which the rights to Bowie's works were sold is not known, but it is said to be more than 250 million dollars.

The news comes days before the "Bowie 75" event that will mark the musician's 75th birthday on Saturday.

Bowie passed away in 2016.
