American singer Beyoncé received the most nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards today with nominations in nine categories, ahead of rapper Kendrick Lamar, British pop diva Adele and singer Brandy Carlyle.
The list of nominations released today paves the way for a rematch between Beyoncé and Adele at the next awards ceremony, which will take place on February 5, 2023 in Los Angeles.
In 2017, the British artist beat the competition in the main categories by winning five Grammy Awards with her album "25", to the detriment of the American.
Five years later, Beyonce is in pole position with her album "Renaissance", released in July, with dance and disco accents. She received nine nominations in the main categories for album, song and record of the year, ahead of Californian rapper Kendrick Lamar who received eight nominations, followed by Adele and pop, rock and country singer Brandi Carlyle who received seven each.
The 88-year-old "Queen" Beyoncé also joins husband, rapper Jay-Z, with whom he shares the spot as the most nominated artist of all time, with a total of XNUMX nominations.
Nearly half of this year's top nominees are women and more than half are people of color, according to the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
Beyoncé, the most awarded woman in Grammy history with 28 awards, could beat the record held by Hungarian-British conductor George Solti for the most awards if she wins four Grammys. Solti, with 31 Grammys, holds the record for the most awards since 1997.
The Grammy Awards, established in 1959, are an annual award for outstanding contributions to music and recording, presented by the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
