The American Grammy Awards, the musical equivalent of the Oscars, will be awarded late tonight in Los Angeles, and singer Beyoncé has the most nominations in nine categories ahead of rapper Kendrick Lamar, British pop diva Adele and folk-rock singer Brandy Carlyle.
Beyoncé is a favorite with the album "Renaissance". She received nine nominations in the major categories of Album, Song and Record of the Year, ahead of Californian rapper Lamar who received eight nominations. Adele and Brandi Carlile are next, with seven nominations each.
The ceremony will once again be hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, and the first lady of the USA, Jill Biden, will be among the presenters.
Among the nominees in the Discovery of the Year category are Lato, Muni Long and Omar Apolo, three American artists that the TikTok app itself has designated as the best young artists on its platform. The Italian pop-rock group Maneskin is also on that list.
The Grammy Awards, established in 1959, are an annual recognition of outstanding contributions to music and recording by the American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
