American musician Ton Bennett died on July 21, at the age of 96, reports Radio Free Europe.
"Tony left us today. He was singing at his piano until the other day and his last song was 'Because of You. Tony, because of you, your songs are in our hearts forever,'" Bennett's Twitter account posted on July 21.
The death of the famous singer was also confirmed by his publicist Silvija Weiner. In a statement to the Associated Press, she said that he died in his native New York.
On social networks, many say goodbye to him, among them singers Elton John and Carole King, and the former first lady of the United States of America, Hillary Clinton.
Clinton wrote that Bennett was a true talent, a true gentleman and friend.
"We'll miss you Tony and thanks for all the memories," Clinton tweeted.
Bennett has marked the music scene for more than seven decades.
This legendary pop and jazz singer from New York was known for songs such as The Way You Look Tonight, Body and Soul and (I Left My Heart) In San Francisco.
Bennett worked with big names in music, such as Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra, who called him "the best singer".
During a career that spanned eight decades, he sold millions of records and won 20 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award.
No specific cause of death has been released, but it is known that Tony Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease several years ago.
