Brian Wilson, the leader, composer, singer and one of the founders of the legendary American band Beach Boys, who suffers from dementia, has been placed under the guardianship of the American justice system, at the request of his family.
The 81-year-old musician, whose group is world-famous primarily for its hits from the sixties, needs help in everyday life due to dementia, which was revealed to the public last year.
His family applied for guardianship in January, following the death of his wife, Melinda.
This request was approved this Sunday by a court in Los Angeles, which admitted that the artist suffers from a "major neurocognitive disorder" and is not "capable of taking care of himself", several American media reported today.
Wilson, who has seven children, will be jointly supervised by his agent Jean Sievers and manager Lee Ann Hard.

The musician composed some of the biggest hits of American pop music, including "Surfin' USA", "Good Vibrations", "God Only Knows", "California Girls" and "I Get Around". The Beach Boys' last worldwide hit was the song "Kokomo" recorded for the movie "Cocktail" in 1988, but Brian did not participate in that project, as he was busy recording his own solo album.
Wilson made the Beach Boys one of the most popular and commercially successful American groups in the world, of all time.
The second half of the 60s was marked by their unusual rivalry with the Beatles. In an attempt to create the perfect studio album that would be better than anything ever made, Wilson fell into a depression in 1967 which, combined with excessive drug use, separated him from his previously brilliant career.
Previously, the Beach Boys made the LP "Pet Sounds" (1966), which John Lennon himself said was one of the best albums of all time. But then the Beatles released "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which the whole world experienced as the pinnacle of rock music, and Wilson went astray...
