More than four decades ago, brothers Jim and William Reid were briefly in a band called the Poppy Seeds. Today, they're known to audiences as The Jesus And Mary Chain, and they've paid tribute to their early days with a new single called "Pop Seeds."
The Reed Brothers came up with the song "Pop Seeds" during the sessions for their album "Glasgow Eyes", which was released in March 2024. While that album has a slightly darker tone, "Pop Seeds" is a bright, psychedelic track, described as a "nostalgic evocation of a shared psyche landscape that led to the founding of The Jesus And Mary Chain, which Jim and William describe in their new memoir 'Never Understood'," the band said.
The Scottish alternative band was formed in 1983 and is considered one of the most significant representatives of the shoegaze and noise pop subgenres. The debut album "Psychocandy" was released to critical acclaim in 1985, and their biggest commercial success was their next release "Darklands", which reached number five in the UK album chart in 1987.
"Glasgow Eyes" is their eighth studio release.
