One of the most promising Serbian pop singer-songwriters, Luka Rajic, released this week his debut album entitled "Children of the New Millennium", under the label Universal Music Serbia.
"I feel that this album will give meaning to my work so far and round off these first few years of playing music, as well as my life during that period. "Children of the New Millennium" is a collection of words, sounds and images that are a mirror of me, but also of everyone else who goes through the roller coaster of experiences of the 20s", said the musician on the occasion of the release of his debut album.
He collaborated on the album with his brother, a producer Igor Rajić, producer and multi-instrumentalist A.N.D.R, an artist Emilija Terzić, Emilija Đonin from the group KOIKOI and a pianist Filip Bulatović better known as Mapo Keys.
Rajić previously released the EP "Ludim od kluba", collaborated with other promising artists of the newer generation such as Pocket Palm i Jymenik, and announced the album with four singles, the last of which "Summer is over" was released in August.
In an interview for "Vijesti", Rajić talked about his first album, as well as previously released singles, and revealed how it happened that according to him "summer is over" at the beginning of August when he released the song of that name.
“I've been waiting to get this question! Summer is love, and love can sometimes end during the summer. It's a bit of a target, I like that", the musician replies, and then he looked back at the message he sends - the summer love that has ended, and as he said, that was not the only thing that inspired him when creating the song.
"I enjoy writing music a lot because while I'm writing, I'm making internal jokes with myself. One of my favorite lines from the song "Summer is over" is "Like when I told you that this was all made for us." All the trips, departures and flights that I will never see'. The person to whom this is dedicated probably does not know that it is about them, but I know that I was promised trips that I never went on, and I really enjoyed it! I'm not mad, I'm actually very grateful for that relationship. Although... I see that people are traveling now", says Rajić.
The Serbian musician previously released the songs "Rituali" and "Slobodan pad", so he singles out the one that, in his opinion, went down best with the audience, but which is also his favorite.
"I got the impression that they liked 'Rituali' the most. I love that song. One of the more energetic ones on the album and I think it came out at the right time, right at the beginning of summer. People had the opportunity to listen to it during the summer and to experience it in the best way, with the sun and the sea. For this transitional period from summer to autumn, I would definitely recommend 'Summer is over'. It is also one of the favorites", answers the interlocutor of "Vijesti".
In addition to working on new songs and an album, Rajić also had a large number of performances during the summer, but as he says, "the summer is not over" when it comes to concerts, but for now there will not be any in Montenegro.
"I would like to perform in Montenegro. Even if the performance is somewhere by the sea, that's the perfect scenario for me! We plan and work to realize everything we imagined, including performances. In December, I will have my first solo concert in the Youth Center of Belgrade. Exciting! Come if you find yourself in Belgrade", says the musician.
Given that he has just released his first album, he says he will take a break from studio work.
"A few days ago, my first album was released, which consists of as many as ten new songs. Since we submitted the album in March, no new full songs have been created. If I write something, then it's fragments that don't make much sense. I see this space between making music as a playground where nothing is forbidden, because it's not serious yet. For now, I'm processing the fact that the album is out and every now and then I go on Spotify and look at the album (and sometimes I listen to 'Okreni mi svet')", he admits, and then reveals further plans for his career.
"I spent the previous three years making an album, and now I really want to perform. I will have my first solo concert in Belgrade in December. That really makes me happy. A big part of doing music for me is performing, I enjoy interacting with the audience and every time it's different and uncertain, and almost always fun. It's only less fun if it's really hot and sweat drips into my eyes (a very specific pain, I don't recommend it to anyone) or when a technical problem appears (the keyboard magically turns off or the microphone and cable come loose)," Rajić points out.
The Serbian musician published his first songs in English, but that changed in the meantime, and as he says, he currently has no plans to write lyrics and sing in a foreign language again.
"As for writing in English, I have no plans to do so at the moment. I am polishing our language, which is very poetic, we have a lot of beautiful and sonorous words. After all, I would probably have fewer chances to perform if the music was in English", he believes.
When asked how familiar he is with the music scene in Montenegro and whether he would single out any of his colleagues, the interlocutor of "Vijesti" answers:
"Actually, I'm not that familiar with the scene in Montenegro, and I realized that now after this question. Kneza I love him because of his personality. 'Lucky suit' is still one of the best moments in culture".
