American pop star Lady Gaga has released a new album called "Harlequin", which consists of songs inspired by her character, which she portrays in the new movie "Joker: Folie À Deux".
Almost all the songs on the album are covers of American classics, except for two tracks written by Gaga, one of which bears the second part of the film's title.
Variety reports that the vibe of "Harlequin" is similar to her previous albums with the late producer Tony Bennett, the Grammy-winning "Cheek to Cheek" and "Love for Sale," although they lean more sonically towards jazz and rock.
"Harlequin" was announced just a few days ago and surprised many, since Gaga had previously announced the release of the first single from her as-yet-untitled studio album, which will be released in February. She hinted at the new release via a billboard with the words "LG 6.5" suggesting that she is not experiencing the "Harlequin" that is her seventh album.
Before the release of the new edition, the Oscar winner talked about playing Harleen Lee Quinzel, who is also known as Harley Quinn, a character from DC comics and movies, as a profound experience that inspired the album.
"That idea of dual identities has always been a part of my work. I've always created characters in my music, and when I created Lee for 'Joker,' she had a profound effect on me. The film was full of music, music that I love, and I managed to discover that character through the story, through the music we performed everyday, as well as through the dance, costumes and make-up. So I had a deep experience with the character and it didn't leave me creatively, so I decided that I wanted to make a whole album. inspired by her," she told Apple Music.
In the sequel to the hugely successful 2019 movie "Joker," again directed by Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the titular antihero Arthur Fleck, who is now a patient at Arkam Mental Hospital, where he falls in love with patient Lee. As their romance blossoms, Fleck's loyal followers rise up to rescue him.
