British rock band Pink Floyd has reached an agreement with Sony to sell its music catalog for nearly $400 million.
The legendary group agreed to sell the rights to its music catalog, name and brand, but not the rights to the songs. This was preceded by several years of disputes over the details of the sale between the surviving members of the band, the Guardian reports.
In 2022, Variety reported that Pink Floyd plans to sell its records and other assets worth up to $500 million.
However, according to the newspaper, potential buyers postponed their purchase after the interview with the bassist and founder of the band Roger Waters for Rolling Stone magazine in 2022, in which he made controversial statements about Israel, Ukraine, Russia and the United States of America.
Among other things, Waters said that it is not true that the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 is "unprovoked". Russia invited Waters to address the UN Security Council in early 2023, where he repeated the claim.
Later that year, the Berlin police investigated Waters because of the Nazi-style uniform he wore to a concert there. That same year, he won a legal battle and was allowed to hold a concert in Frankfurt, after the city tried to cancel the event, calling Waters "one of the most famous anti-Semites in the world."
It is noted that Pink Floyd's music catalog is one of the most valuable in modern music. Among the band's most famous albums are "The Wall", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and others.
