Russian composer, multi-instrumentalist and specialist in baroque, renaissance and medieval music Ivan Velikanov will hold a solo concert of medieval music on the portative instrument, i.e. the organet, on November 3 in the Kotor Cathedral of St. Tripun at 19 p.m.
The organetto, or portative, is a fascinating medieval instrument that disappeared in the 16th century, but thanks to the interest in the authentic performance of ancient music, has experienced a revival in modern times.
The program covers music from the 13th to the 16th centuries, highlighting the golden age of the portative and its evolution towards the modern organ, and composers such as Guillaume de Masho, Francesco Landini i Antonio de Cabazon, together with anonymous works from the collections Codex Rossi, London Codex, Laudatio di Cortona, Buxheimer Orgelbuch.
"By listening to the organ together with the organ in St. Tripun's Cathedral, the audience will have the opportunity to dive into the mystical and until recently lost world of music originally composed for these instruments, and to directly experience the musicological transition from one to the other, deepening their understanding of their unique characteristics and historical significance." , says the announcement for this event.
Ivan Velikanov lives and works in Montenegro, and in addition to a successful career on the world stage, he held a series of concerts of early music in Podgorica, Herceg Novi, Bar, Budva, Cetinje and Kotor, and the upcoming concert represents his return to the Cathedral of St. Tripun, whose treasury manuscripts of exactly the kind of music that listeners will have the opportunity to enjoy at Sunday's concert.
