Metallica fans are eagerly awaiting the new album, and Kirk Hammett has given them cause for excitement, revealing that he has 767 guitar riffs ready for the band's next album.
On the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Hammett talked about his creative process:
"I have 767 riffs for the new album. It's a nightmare to organize them all, but that's my problem."
Even though he is 62, he still feels creatively inspired:
"I'm constantly improving, I'm full of ideas. When I pick up the guitar, I let the music flow naturally, I don't want to analyze it too much."
Despite having a ton of new riffs, Metallica won't be entering the studio anytime soon. The band is still on a world tour in support of their "72 Seasons" album, with shows across Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
"I don't think we'll start working on the album for at least another year," Hamet said.
"We'll have a short break after the tour, but there won't be too much time to work."
He also hinted that the new album could bring elements from their "Load" and "Reload" eras:
"When those albums came out, the fans didn't really take to them. But now they love them. When we play Fuel, the crowd goes crazy. So, who knows? Maybe it's not a bad idea to explore that sound again."
In addition to his work with Metallica, Hammett is also busy with other projects. He recently published a book, "The Collection: Kirk Hammett," which showcases his collection of rare vintage guitars.
In addition, he is currently working on his first solo album, which will blend classical music, heavy metal, and funk, and will also feature vocal tracks, although he has not yet revealed who the lead singer will be.
