April has been dedicated to jazz music for more than a decade and a half, and the 18th edition of the Jazz Appreciation Month in Montenegro - JAM 2025 festival continues with performances by Golnar & Mahan Trio. Iranian musicians based in Vienna, Golnar Shahjar i Mahan Mirarab, will provide the audience with a unique musical experience tonight at KIC “Budo Tomović” at 20 p.m. A day later, they will hold a duo concert at the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, also at 20 p.m.
Golnar & Mahan Trio brings a remarkably fresh approach to musical storytelling, fusing contemporary jazz, Southwest Asian microtonal melodies, polyrhythms, European chamber music, and experimental sounds. Through structured compositions, powerful rhythms, and delicate sounds, the trio creates a soundscape that rejects clichés and genre boundaries, providing the audience with a unique musical experience that is profound and authentic.
Golnar Shahjar is an Iranian-Canadian singer, composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who arrived in Vienna in 2008 to pursue her musical career. Along the way, she has collaborated with artists such as Erkan Ogur, Alain Perez and the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, he met Mahan Mirarab, an Iranian-Austrian guitarist and composer known for his interpretations of Persian music through the jazz genre. The two became inseparable musical partners, through various projects and bands, creating a rich sonic spectrum.
In this trio, together with the top Austrian percussionist Amirom Vahbom, Golnar and Mahan showcase their long-standing artistic development, staying true to the spirit of human expression through music.
