A recording of Pink Floyd's mysterious 1972 concert held in the ruins of Pompeii, titled "Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII", became their seventh album to reach number one on the British charts.
This album captures the concert, directed by Adrian Mayben, which was captured in one of the most memorable concert films in rock history.
The film has been restored to 4K quality and has been re-released in theaters, including in an Imax version. The concert footage was previously part of the extensive "Pink Floyd box set", but this is the first time it has been released as a standalone release, with a new sound mix by prog rock musician, Stephen Wilson.
This is Pink Floyd's first No. 1 album since their last studio release, 2014's "The Endless River."
Other albums that reached the top of the UK charts were "Atom Heart Mother" (1970), "Wish You Were Here" (1975), "The Final Cut" (1983), "The Division Bell" (1994) and "Pulse" (1995).
Although it went 16 times platinum and spent 578 weeks on the chart, the legendary "The Dark Side of the Moon" never reached the top spot, having been held back by the forgotten compilation album "1973 Flash Back Greats of the Sixties" in 20, the week of its release.
Albums like "Meddle", "Animals" and "The Wall" also made it into the Top 3, but never to the top.
