Ed Sheeran has released a new song called "Drive", featuring Dave Grohl on drums and John Mayer on guitar.

The song is part of the soundtrack for the film "F1", and Sheeran revealed in an Instagram post that he wrote it together with Meyer and songwriter Blake Slatkin.

Grohl and session bassist Pino Paladin were, as he says, "the final pieces of the puzzle of the song."

"I knew I wanted to make a real rock 'n' roll song for (the film), a real driving thing. Something you'd turn up to the max while you're driving," the post reads.

"A pure dream team for the rock 'n' roll genre and I really feel that what we've created is a perfect fit for the scene in the film. I've loved making songs for films, ever since I did 'I See Fire' for 'The Hobbit'. As a film fan, it gives me a chance to go behind the scenes and contribute the perfect song for a particular scene," he added.

The film "F1" will premiere on June 25th in the United Kingdom, and on June 27th in the United States and Canada.

The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Brad Pitt, who also stars, and Lewis Hamilton.

Pitt plays former F1 driver Sonny Hayes in the film, who returns to the sport to partner newcomer Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, on the fictional APXGP team.
