Fans of popular American singer Beyonce Knowles have criticized her for a T-shirt she wore at a concert during her world tour, which featured the insignia of the Buffalo Soldiers.
Beyonce wore the controversial T-shirt at a concert in Paris, during a tour promoting her new album "Cowboy Carter."
"Buffalo" soldiers served in six units during the US Civil War in 1866, and the units were made up of former slaves, as well as whites.
They fought in the Spanish-American War, as well as World Wars I and II, and were officially disbanded in 1951.
On the back of the controversial T-shirt is a long description of the "Buffalo" squad, which lists Indians, bandits, cattle rustlers, murderers, smugglers and Mexican revolutionaries as the enemies of the squad.
Photos and videos of the singer in the controversial T-shirt were also found on her official website.
Many Beyoncé fans, including musicians and scholars from Native American communities, criticized her on social media for portraying them in the T-shirt as, they say, anything but victims of American imperialism.
According to the quote on the controversial T-shirt, soldiers also fought against Native Americans during the US's westward expansion.
Beyonce's latest album, "Cowboy Carter," is seen by many as an attempt by the singer to undermine the country genre's affinity with the white population, as well as to restore the cowboy aesthetic to the black population.
Last year, Beyonce became the first black woman to top the Billboard country music chart, and her new album also earned her a prestigious Grammy Award.
