One of the region's most exciting music events, the Roots Revival Reggae Festival, returns to the majestic fortress of Forte Mare, bringing the true spirit of reggae to the heart of the Bay of Kotor.

This unique festival, which began in 2021 as a two-day event in the alternative space “Pivnica”, has grown into one of the most recognizable cultural events on the Montenegrin coast. Its mission from the very beginning has been to bring together audiences of all generations through music, togetherness, intercultural exchange and the fight against discrimination.

Recognized in the region: Nomination for best boutique festival

The festival was selected among the top five best boutique festivals in the region in 2023, selected from more than 1.000 submitted projects by the prestigious EU Ambassador organization from Zagreb. This is the first such nomination for a festival from Montenegro in the last eight years, a confirmation of the originality and international quality of Roots Revival.

Audience from all over the world

More than two-thirds of visitors who purchased tickets through the official website came from abroad, mainly from EU countries, but also from South Africa, Israel, Panama, Jamaica and Mexico. This international response confirms the global reach of the festival and its role in affirming Montenegro as a cultural and tourist destination.

Line-up 2024: Legends and new energy

This year, the festival brings an incredible mix of veterans and new forces:

Twinkle Brothers (Jamaica) – Legendary reggae pioneers with over 60 years of musical heritage

Reema (St. Croix) – Spiritual reggae queen with a distinctive voice and powerful messages

Tippy I Grade (St. Croix) – Visionary dub producer with strong ties to Midnite

Del Arno Band (Serbia) – Reggae icons of the ex-Yu scene

The Homegrowns (Slovenia) – Fresh sounds of reggae, ska and dub rhythms

Earl Gateshead (UK) – Living legend of European reggae DJing, former member of Trojan Sound System

White Squall Soundsystem (Serbia) – Dub poetry and socially engaged texts

DJ Mizizi (Serbia) – Traditional participant who opens the festival, author of the Reggae Fever show

Selector Grandpa (YU) – Local hero and member of the Roots Revival organizing team

Warm-up party at Pivnica on July 24th

The festival will open with a promo party on July 24th at the iconic Pivnica, where the following will perform:

DJ Dadaman (MNE) – Radio Reggeneration

Ruffneck Smile (Germany) – Outta Mi Yard Radio

Immigration Sound (Germany)

The festival is organized by “Reggaeneracija”, a non-profit organization from Montenegro that has been promoting reggae as a driver of social and cultural change for over 20 years. Their eponymous radio is the only 24/7 reggae station in the Balkans, and the organization was instrumental in the development of the reggae scene in the region.

Roots Revival would not be possible without the support of the Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro, the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi, and JUK Herceg Fest.
