When I was "struck" by adrenaline, I wasn't thinking about pregnancy

Only five months have passed since the single "Noć, ti i ja", and a new song "Da si tu" (If You Were Here) has come out of Jovana Ćupić's musical kitchen, and she didn't mind recording a video for it, even in her second state.

After five months have passed since the last single "Night, You and Me", the Montenegrin musician Jovana Ćupić She decided to treat electro-pop fans to a new song. The track "Da si tu" continued the musical story that Ćupić started with her previous single and brought freshness to the music scene.

Jovana co-wrote the music and lyrics with producer Stefan Pantović, in whose studio this track was also recorded. Rare are musicians who have this pace of release, so Ćupić also addressed whether five months is enough to promote a song:

"The old single did great, which is why I decided on a new one so quickly. I'm not sure which is the right path, I somehow don't know how to tactically do what I love. I had 'Da si tu' ready and I wanted to give the audience more music from me right away. I think I still have a lot to give and I can't wait for the next songs and albums, and whether it's the right path - we'll see," she said in an interview with Vijesti.

Both the first and second songs have that disco-electro sound, with the first one being funky and the second one being pop. On whether this means that Jovana Ćupić has just found herself through this genre, she says:

"I would say, as far as authorial work is concerned, that for now it is something that completely fulfills me. Whereas in live performances you can find various genres. I think my voice is flexible in that regard, so I would definitely try some other genres, but for now let me stay here."

Those who know you or follow you on social media know that Jovana is always cheerful, positive, and singing, and whether faster rhythms are the right way to convey the energy she carries, she says:

"Thank you for this! I'm so glad that people have such a (real) image of me. Of course, we don't post everything on social media and it's absolutely not a place for intimacy, but we should use our profile and entertain people. I've always loved to make people laugh and animate, and through that I express some of my energy. Compared to music, I can express energy through the fastest disco song, but also a top ballad like "Always" by Bon Jovi. I've definitely noticed that people like me more in fast rhythms. I would like to include more dancing and acting in my videos, and that will happen if I stop filming them while pregnant," promised Jovana, who has shown her vocal abilities through numerous competitions. Today, she is a co-author of her own songs, and she reveals how important it is to her when it comes to melodies - to show off the richness of her vocals:

"I get a lot of comments that I need a good song to show off my vocal abilities. I believed in that myself, until recently. I don't even know what that means anymore, or whether I have that 'ability' anymore. My vocals have changed a lot since the competition you mentioned, where I was the contestant who only performed the most difficult songs. Now I wouldn't even be able to sing half of those songs, I believe. As a co-author of my own songs, I've seen that it's much more powerful when you can express emotions, energy, a story, and ultimately that vocal. I can definitely show off my vocal abilities more at live performances, where I give 150 percent of myself. But as I mentioned above, I have a lot of things I'd like to show you all, so 'stay tuned'," said Ćupić.

She worked on her last two singles in collaboration with Pantović, who is also her fellow citizen, and she does not hide the fact that it is much easier to create when she has a colleague and producer by her side who knows exactly what she wants.

"It's a huge relief, because you feel like you're in safe hands. But like in all relationships in life, people just fall into place. I never had to explain to him what I wanted and what kind of sound I was going for, he knew that. I'm really curious to see what else we're going to do," she wonders.

The new single is accompanied by a video he was responsible for. Miodrag Mika Marković, while she did the editing and color correction Dusanka Belada. In previous interviews, the news reporter emphasized that a song without a video is meaningless, and filming it while she was six months pregnant was not difficult for her.

"When I was 'shot' by adrenaline, I didn't even think about being pregnant. Of course, it was easy for me with the most wonderful crew and a bunch of rolls. I'm kidding, we designed it so that the recording day wouldn't be too tiring, but even if I hadn't been pregnant, I think we would have made the same one like this, because it simply goes with the song. It seems like the baby just directed us," adds Jovana, who announced her debut album for the end of the year. However, family is more important, and she will only think about new songs after she gives birth.

"I was afraid of this question, I was so optimistic about announcing the album, although over time I learned that we can't plan such big things. Definitely nothing from the album (for now), because our baby is coming in early November. But as a mother for the second time, I think I'll get back to everything faster, because I know what awaits me," claims Jovana, who released her first single "Oduvijek" last year, and unlike this year's, that track was done in a slightly different guise. Regarding whether there will be room for it on the debut, she says:

"When there is an album, 'Oduvijek' will be on it, which will forever be special in my heart as my debut," concludes Ćupić.

He likes competitions, but not festivals.

Jovana has participated and won many competitions, showing her “competitive spirit.” However, although festivals are a good springboard for musicians at the beginning of their careers, Vijesti's interviewee has not yet decided to present what she does through these musical forms.

"I'm not a fan of festivals, especially if there's no live singing, if the jury isn't carefully selected, and so on. I'm glad we have festivals where young people can present themselves, and I don't consider myself to be at the beginning. Competitions are also great, and I would like them to come back again, because this one we had gave birth to many talents," Ćupić reminded herself and revealed why she "skipped" the Montenegrin selection for the Eurovision Song Contest:

"I skipped Montesong because I was in the early stages of pregnancy, so I was afraid of what would happen if I won. Just kidding, a lot has been announced here in the last few years and I'm glad that's the case and I wish all my colleagues the best of luck. Let's prove that we don't need Belgrade to succeed. But in order to reach that level, these aforementioned festivals and some planned ones and all those above us must have the same goal, and it still doesn't seem to me that's the case. There's a lot of empty talk. I'm afraid that the scenarios from the Budva Festival and Sunčane skala are being repeated. I hope I'm wrong," she believes.
