In a rapidly changing world, the way we communicate has completely changed, with conversations increasingly taking place through text messages, and in-person meetings becoming rare. People spend hours staring at screens, responding to notifications, sharing pictures, and liking other people's lives, while their own lives pass by in a fast-paced and routine manner.
The Montenegrin singer-songwriter also addressed today's lifestyle in his latest song - "Days in Front of the Screen" Bozo Bulatovic. The animated video accompanying his new single shows how virtual reality has infiltrated every part of our lives, from love and friendship to everyday decisions. Everything we could not imagine digitizing before is now happening on the small screen. Through these lyrics signed by Bulatović, he tried to explore the layers of online love, its beauty and challenges, but also the dangers that excessive obsession with screens brings. Through the text and music, he portrayed feelings of desire, fear and longing for true, authentic love in a world that is increasingly digitalized.
This track comes after the singles “Majko”, “Priolazi mi dan” and “Dodirni me” which are part of his new studio album “Skrivena slova”. Like most artists, Božo will present his new album to the audience by playing one single at a time, so that each track has enough time to spin and reach the audience.
"That's exactly the plan - single by single, video by video. That's the only thing that makes sense because albums are no longer listened to, only singles, there's less concentration for listening to music, and performances in clubs are usually verse-chorus because people want to hear as much as possible, with less time spent. Everything happens in the digital space today, and this video and song describe exactly that," Bulatović told Vijesti, who in his latest single talks about how dependent we are on mobile phones, and emphasizes that "everything has moved online." He says how much he is concerned about the fact that screens are slowly becoming a substitute for real emotions, relationships, and everyday life moments, and that we are less and less able to communicate in person, and how much this obsession with screens is actually distancing us from each other:
"Screens have become everything - our eyesight is weak, our emotions are weak, or they are becoming artificial and instant. So we all realize that screens are swallowing us up, but we don't know how to return to hugs, live conversations, and everything that makes life meaningful and beautiful," the musician is aware of today's problems.
The video that accompanies the spot is very interesting and brings to life characters from comics, such as those from Alan Ford and Zagor. These comics once shaped the imagination of younger generations and encouraged them to create worlds in their heads. Today, however, we increasingly rely on influencers and content on social networks, so imagination is often redundant because children and young people are served a ready-made experience. This “killing of imagination” reduces creativity and the ability to think critically, and at the same time makes it easier for people - both young and adults - to be manipulated because they accept everything as it is presented to them.
"Our generation's inspiration for imagination for some distant times was precisely in comics. The aging characters in the video who are addicted to screens also remind me of all the heroes of my childhood. However, no matter how much we criticize young people, our generation is also a 'victim' of the digital world and screens. But if you can't win, join in and work from the inside to gain better positions in the former world we lived in," Bulatović is honest.
The track “Danima pred ekranima” is the fourth single from the album “Skrivena slova”. He promised that the tracks that will be included in this project will bring emotions, quality music and authorial stories. When asked when it will be released and whether, like the one in the song “Danima pred ekranima”, the other themes on the album will be told by using the universal one that connects everything – love, he agrees:
"The album is in the works until it's released on a record (I hope on vinyl). The songs are not announced, they just come. I try to make what I do make sense, time will tell how much others see in it as quality. It's hard to create anything in Montenegro today. There's little understanding among those who could contribute and support investing in music. Only when there's some success, then everyone is there for as long as it takes, but on the difficult path to success, there are few open doors," claims Bulatović.
This video used AI, and recently, the use of artificial intelligence in all branches of culture has been increasing. Regarding what you think about the use of AI and how much its uncontrolled use will kill creativity, Vijesti's interviewee says:
"The guy who made this video is a video designer" Daniel Hegedisch from Croatia (Rijeka). He uses animations and many other tools so that only he can explain exactly what he did and how he did it. I only know that I am very satisfied with the final product. As for the use of AI in creations, I believe that it cannot significantly affect those who play, because after all, the love for the instrument also gives birth to this other textual part while playing or vice versa. So AI can be a help when you get stuck somewhere and don't have a solution, but it can hardly completely replace the style of something that has been done for decades", concludes Bulatović.
