Singer Mariah Carey has reacted to her song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" breaking the record for spending the longest time at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Last week, the 1994 pop hit achieved a record-breaking 20th week at the top of the chart, 31 years after its original release. The single surpassed the previous records held by “A Bar Song” (Tipsy) from 2024 and “Old Town Road” from 2019.

When Billboard asked Keri how she felt about breaking the record, she said:

"It's incredible. It really is. I can't lie."

Her 1995 song, “One Sweet Day” with Boys II Men, previously held the record for the longest-running number one song on the Hot 100, spending 16 weeks at the top. Carey admitted that she was embarrassed at the time that Lil Nas X “stole” her crown:

"I was angry. But what can you do?"

The record of 16 weeks was later tied by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber with the song "Despacito", as well as Morgan Valens with the song "Last Night".

Harry Styles spent 15 weeks at the top with the song "As It Was".

Keri admitted that she didn't expect "All I Want For Christmas Is You" to be the song that would restore her record-breaking title.

"It just happened, and I could never have predicted it," said Carey, and when asked how much longer the song could stay at number one, she said:

"I don't know. At some point it's not Christmas anymore, but I love this."

The singer added that she will spend the holidays performing at her Christmastime In Las Vegas residency, which she wrapped up last weekend.

“We do this every night, but I really want to celebrate the holidays,” she said.

She shared a post on Instagram in which she wrote that she is “humbledly taking the torch back. Twenty weeks at #1. I am so grateful,” she wrote.

Last year, Carey celebrated the 30th anniversary of her Christmas classic with a series of special editions. The song finally topped the US and UK charts in 2019 and 2020, two and a half decades after its original release.
