Several hundred people from Čačak gathered on Tuesday evening in front of the offices of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) to protest the "senseless and unnecessary spending of 4,5 million dinars" from the city budget for a concert organized by the government on the square to celebrate the New Year according to the Julian calendar.
They played rock music from a large loudspeaker while a concert by the local Cultural and Artistic Society "Abrašević" was held in the town square, after which a concert by pop singer Ana Bekuta began.
Citizens protesting against the concert served mulled wine and brandy, whistled and blew whistles and trumpets, N1 reports. Footage shows that Ana Bekuta was pelted with snowballs by protesters.
The premises of the SNS City Committee in that city were in darkness and only a few police officers stood in front of them.
Around 22 p.m., a brass band joined the protesting citizens.
Several hundred citizens gathered in front of the stage on the town square, where the concert of the "Abrašević" cultural and artistic group and Ana Bekuta was taking place.
The police, who were present both in the town square and in front of the SNS premises, did not react.
Both events - a concert on the city square organized by the city authorities and a citizen protest in front of the SNS premises, called for by informal citizen groups "Citizens of Čačak in Blockade" and "Pokretač", passed without incident, reports N1.
